Canadian Province of Manitoba Says It Will Ban Social Media, AI For Youth

Manitoba plans to legally ban young people from using AI chatbots and social media platforms.

The Canadian province announced in April 2026 a prohibition on youth access to social media and AI tools, making it the first jurisdiction to attempt comprehensive age-gated bans on both. The rule would operate as a blanket restriction on platform access for minors, similar to age verification already applied in some markets.

Sofia's take: Manitoba just drafted the first explicit AI ban for minors. Not regulation; not guardrails. A ban. Nobody's tested enforcement, but the signal is clear: if the lobby can't prove safety, the law assumes harm and acts. Watch Brussels now.
