Google employees ask Sundar Pichai to say no to classified military AI use

Over 600 Google employees, including 20-plus senior researchers from DeepMind, signed a letter demanding CEO Sundar Pichai block the Pentagon from using Google's AI for classified military purposes.

The letter, organized by DeepMind staff, was reported by The Washington Post; signers include principals, directors, and vice presidents. Employees are invoking Google's prior AI ethics commitments and calling for binding restrictions on military AI use.

Sofia's take: 600 signatures on an ethics letter is noise unless Pichai loses headcount. The Pentagon deal is larger than the letter. Watch if senior researchers quit. Until then, this is theater.
