Google investeert tot 40 miljard dollar in AI-rivaal Anthropic - MarketScreener Nederland

Google commits up to $40 billion to Anthropic, cementing its position as the only major AI lab with guaranteed capital from a trillion-dollar parent.

Google announced a multi-year investment of up to $40 billion in Anthropic, announced Friday 24 April 2026, deepening a partnership that began with a $2 billion commitment last year. The funding flows through a combination of direct investment and cloud-compute commitments, locking Anthropic into Google Cloud infrastructure while keeping the AI lab nominally independent.

Oliver's take: Forty billion dollars is a lot of money to spend on insurance. Google hedges OpenAI by throwing capital at Anthropic, then locks them into Google Cloud for compute. It's a neat trick: you own less risk by owning less equity. Anthropic keeps the autonomy theatre; Google keeps the moat.
